Why Metta Counsel

The things that actually make a difference in family law support

Choosing legal support for a family matter is a personal decision. Here is what we bring to the work, and how our approach differs from what you might find elsewhere.

What you can expect from us

Every point below reflects a deliberate choice in how we operate — not marketing language, but the actual practices that shape our work with families.

Listening-first consultations

Every matter begins with an unhurried conversation. We do not start with assumptions or standard scripts. We start with your situation.

Registered Thai law practitioners

Our lawyers hold active registration with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and practise exclusively in family law matters — no generalist handling of complex situations.

Full confidentiality

What you share with us stays with us. We hold strict professional obligations to protect your information and will never disclose anything without your consent.

Transparent, agreed fees

We set out costs clearly before any work begins and do not proceed beyond what has been agreed. No unexpected invoices, no pressure to extend engagements.

Plain-language updates

We keep clients informed at each meaningful stage, in language that is clear and free of unnecessary legal terminology. You always know where things stand.

Cross-cultural experience

We work with Thai nationals and international residents throughout Bangkok. Our team is experienced in cross-jurisdictional family matters and works fluently in English and Thai.

Professional expertise that stays current

Our lawyers focus exclusively on family law matters under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code. This focus means that when a situation is complex — particularly in areas such as cross-border custody, foreign marriage recognition, or contested parenting arrangements — we already have practical experience to draw on.

We participate in continuing professional development through the Thai Bar Council and the Thailand Arbitration Centre and stay informed of developments in Thai family court practice.

What this means in practice

  • Focused family law experience, not a general practice
  • Active Thai Bar Council registration for all practising lawyers
  • Thai Arbitration Centre-certified mediation practitioner on team
  • Experience with international and cross-jurisdictional family matters
  • Regular professional training and development participation

The client experience we aim for

  • Initial consultation at a time and pace that suits you
  • Written summary of options provided after each consultation
  • One consistent point of contact throughout your matter
  • Remote consultations available when preferred
  • Respectful, non-pressured communication at every stage

Service that takes the whole situation seriously

Family matters are rarely just legal matters. The situations our clients bring to us often involve years of history, careful relationships with children, and real personal difficulty. We try to hold that context with respect rather than treat it as background to the paperwork.

This means we communicate thoughtfully, we do not rush consultations, and we are honest about what a process will actually involve — including how long it is likely to take and what it will cost.

Straightforward, proportionate pricing

We offer three clearly-scoped services — a consultation at ฿1,800, mediation support from ฿5,600, and court representation from ฿9,400 — each sized to what the situation calls for. There are no hidden add-ons and no work begins without agreement on costs.

For matters that fall outside these tiers, we provide a written scope and fee estimate before proceeding. We believe transparency in pricing is part of the respect owed to people who are already navigating a difficult time.

Pricing clarity we maintain

  • Published service prices with no hidden fees
  • Written scope agreed before any work begins
  • No work extended without client agreement
  • Fees set in Thai Baht — no currency surprises
  • Proportionate service scopes, not one-size packages

How We Compare

Typical legal support versus our approach

Not all legal support is the same. Here are some of the ways our approach differs from what families often encounter elsewhere.

What families often experience elsewhere Typical Metta Counsel
Fees explained clearly before any work starts
Focused only on family law matters
Mediation explored before court is recommended
Written summary after each consultation
Consistent single point of contact
Remote consultations offered
Experience with international and cross-cultural matters

Comparison reflects general observations across the Bangkok legal market, not any specific firm.

What Makes Us Different

Things you will not find everywhere

Written follow-up after every consultation

After each consultation, we provide a written note summarising the options discussed and the next steps available. Something to refer back to in your own time, without needing to remember everything said in the room.

Mediation offered before court is considered

Where the situation allows, we actively explore mediation and private agreement before suggesting a court process. This is both kinder and, in many cases, more effective — and we will be honest when it is not appropriate.

Experience with international families in Bangkok

We have worked with families from many countries navigating Thai family law — including situations involving foreign marriage records, cross-border custody questions, and mixed-nationality parenting arrangements. This is not unfamiliar territory for us.

Honest advice, even when it is not what you hoped to hear

If the situation you describe does not, in our view, require formal legal involvement, we will tell you. We do not encourage more engagement than a situation calls for. Our reputation rests on giving sound advice, not on maximising billable work.
